Wild London

Thought experiment! What if all the transportation in our cities were automated and moved underground? What would we do with the free space?

Replacing our streets with wild nature could improve the air we breathe, the sounds we hear, the views we look out to, and our overall well-being. Our pedestrian movement could be untethered from ground-only to multi-layered walkways through, and above, this new urban wilderness. An antidote to the increasing urban densification.

Maybe this sprawl of nature could inspire a biophilic refit of our existing buildings. Creating interiors with plants, natural materials and organic forms. And maybe a side-effect of removing the concrete streets could be to alleviate the heat island effect and urban flooding.
